Dave has been in the cleaning and restoration industry for the past 23 years, and has been a certified IICRC instructor for nearly 14 years, teaching over 3,000 students. He is recognized across the country for presenting the IICRC courses in an easy to understand format and a fun atmosphere. Dave holds the designations of the IICRC Master Water Restorer, Master Textile Cleaner and Master Smoke and Fire Restorer. He is also IICRC certified in WRT, FSRT, ASD, CCT, AMRT, OCT, CRT, RRT and UFT.
Dave’s tenure includes General Manager and Director of Corporate Training for a major cleaning and restoration franchisee, as well as field-level involvement in a full range of restoration projects, including regular and catastrophic water damages, on-location and large industrial fires and mold remediation.
David has worked in the field of cleaning and restoration since 1973. He owned and operated a full-service cleaning and restoration firm for 42 years, which provided fire and water damage restoration services. David has worked on both commercial and residential restorative drying jobs in all capacities. He also does consulting for both insurance companies and restoration contractors. David is admitted as an expert witness in State and Federal Court.
David is an IICRC Certified Senior Carpet Inspector, Master Cleaning Technician, Master Restoration Technician and is a Certified Restorer and Certified Mechanical Hygienist by the RIA. As an IICRC-approved instructor, he teaches the RSA Restorative Drying (WRT), Applied Structural Drying (ASD), Carpet Cleaning Technician (CCT), Odor Control Technician (OCT), Fire and Smoke Restoration Technician (FSRT) and Trauma and Crime Scene Technician (TCST) courses. David was the Vice Chairman of the ANSI/S540 Trauma and Crime Scene Cleanup Standard and Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) Chairman for development of the TCST certification program.
Kevin is an approved IICRC instructor in the categories of Applied Structural Drying (ASD) and Water Damage Restoration (WRT), and is the co-author of The New Guide to Restorative Drying as well as many other industry publications. He has been actively involved in educating restoration professionals since 1999. Kevin is a certified Master Water Restorer, Master Fire and Smoke Restorer and a Water Loss Specialist. He holds a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Tennessee Technological University, and spent nine years teaching science at the secondary and college level before joining the restoration industry.
Designed to teach the effective, efficient and timely drying of water-damaged structures and contents, the Applied Structural Drying course uses comprehensive classroom and hands-on training. Attendees will learn about appropriate decision making within a restorative drying environment. (Prerequisite: IICRC Certification in WRT)
The Water Damage Restoration Technician course is taken to give restoration personnel that perform remediation work a better concept of water damage, its effects and techniques for drying of structures. This course will give residential and commercial maintenance personnel the background to understand the procedures necessary to deal with water losses, sewer backflows, and contamination such as mold.
This course combines the information taught in both the Water Damage Restoration Technician (WRT) and Applied Structural Drying (ASD) courses (see course descriptions for more details). It must be attended in its entirety along with passing both WRT and ASD exams during that same five-day period. If any portion of the course and exam are not completed, the student is required to re-attend the entire five-day course to receive both certifications. No portion of the five-day course can be applied to either a WRT or ASD course being taught separately.
Focusing on technical procedure for successfully completing the restoration of a fire and smoke damaged environment, students of the Fire and Smoke Restoration Technician course will experience live hands-on use of instruments, extraction systems, drying equipment and chemistry in an actual smoke damaged environment.
The Carpet Cleaning Technician course is designed to cover pre-inspection, fabric identification, basic cleaning chemicals and equipment and proper cleaning techniques and procedures with a residential and light commercial emphasis. Experiencing live, hands-on use of instruments, extraction systems, drying equipment and chemistry in an actual smoke damaged environment, students are taught the art and science of carpet cleaning to professional service providers, as well as others in related industries, the course emphasizes practical application.
Participants will identify fiber, yarn and carpet constructions, style types and finishes, soiling conditions, cleaning science and methodology and other issues and concerns faced by individuals who maintain and clean installed broadloom carpet. When coupled with additional on-the-job training and field experience, students should be adequately prepared to perform carpet cleaning techniques and procedures.
The Floor Care Technician course is an introductory level course in hard surface floor care. Topics covered include industry overview, health, safety and liability, floor covering materials, chemicals, tools and equipment, floor care principles and procedures, specialized floor care procedures, problem solving and troubleshooting, managing the floor care function and industry resources.
The Trauma and Crime Scene Technician course consists of the following components: principles of trauma and crime scene cleanup, safety and health, biocide and antimicrobial technology, administrative procedures, documentation and risk management, inspection and preliminary determination, equipment and tools, structural remediation, vehicle and machinery construction, contents remediation, containment and disposal of waste or sharps and confirmation of cleanliness.
How much are you spending for IICRC water, fire and carpet cleaning certification for your employees?
One of our clients estimates that it costs his company about $1,000 per employee to send them to a 3-day IICRC certification course (which includes course fees, travel cost, rental cars, meals, hotels, wages, etc.). This year they will train over 30 employees, which would have cost them $30,000.

Here is the basic program: A company purchases an entire 2-day (Carpet Cleaning) or 3-day (Water or Fire Restoration) IICRC certification course. The cost to you is $1,000 per day of instruction, plus reasonable travel expenses of the instructor, course manuals and shipping cost (average cost for a 3-day course is about $4,300). Additionally, the sponsoring company provides student lunches, beverages and snacks, which should be no more than $10 per student, per day. Assuming you had 10 employees to train, the total cost would be about $500 per student, or 1/2 of what you would have spent sending them out of your market.
To offset your investment, the sponsoring company can sell seats to the class to virtually anyone else—other restorers in the area, insurance adjusters, construction companies, hygienist, potential clients, etc. Average charge per seat for a 3-day course is $300-$350 (some companies invite special guests, such as insurance adjusters or potential clients, to attend for free and consider this a marketing expense). The number of students in the CCT, WRT and SRT classes are unlimited, so the potential of turning this class into a profit center certainly exists.

Payment for the course is expected at the time individuals or a company registers students for a course. Until the school has received payment, the registration is not complete, and the student is not guaranteed a seat in the class.
Student Transfer Policy
When a student pays for a course and then transfers, the designated transfer fee will be charged (see transfer fees below). By paying the transfer fee, this entitles the student to attend the same course, within 90 days. If the same course is not offered within that 90 day period, they must attend the next scheduled course. Failure to comply with this policy will result in loss of all funds paid.
Student Cancellation Policy
To be fair to both the students and the school, if you must cancel one of our courses, the following cancellation fee will apply:

To avoid the cancellation fee, you may send another student in the place of the originally registered student. All refund decisions are final and are made at the sole discretion of the President of Atex Wholesale Supply and/or the School Administrator for the Atex School of Cleaning and Restoration.
Company Policy Regarding School Cancellations
The school administrator or Company President will make the decision on a course cancellation a minimum of seven (7) days prior to the course beginning date. Each student will be contacted using the contact telephone number, supplied by the student at the time of registration. Failure to provide a working contact number will release the school from contacting that student.
If the course fee has been prepaid for a cancelled course, then the student/company may pick one of two options: (a) apply those paid funds to another course, or (b) request a refund. If (b) is selected and the payment was made by credit card then a credit against that same card will be processed. If payment was made by check or cash, a request for refund will be forwarded to our corporate office. Please be advised that it may take up to 3 weeks before you receive a refund check.
If a student/company purchased a non-refundable airline ticket to attend a cancelled course, the flight should be cancelled upon notification. Most airlines will then issue a credit for the unused ticket. This credit can be used for future travel, but must be used within 12-months. Please contact your airline to review details of their policy regarding non-refundable tickets.
In the event that we fail to notify a student of a cancellation (not because we were unable to reach them through the contact number that was supplied at the time of registration) and they show up for the class, we will:
Refund the cancelled course fee (assuming it had been prepaid), and compensate them for incurred lodging, gas, and/or airline ticket expense. Receipts or copies of the same must support all reimbursement request.
No compensation will be paid for lost revenue to the student/company, due to the lack of notification.
